MPA 2007 May Dean’s Article for Newsletter
As always, I appreciate the opportunity to share my thoughts with the MPA membership.
As I recently reported, the Skaggs Building Addition Dedication Ceremony was scheduled for 1:30 PM on Wednesday, May 9, and I am pleased to report that the event happened as scheduled and planned.
Our faculty and staff put together an outstanding booklet, distributed for the first time at the Dedication Ceremony, outlining the types of research being conducted in the Skaggs School of Pharmacy. We have extra copies and would be pleased to send a copy to any MPA member making such a request.
We were especially pleased that the ALSAM Foundation was well represented at the Dedication Ceremony. Ms. Claudia S. Luttrell, a member of the Foundation Board of Directors and daughter of Sam Skaggs, provided Foundation and Family remarks.
We are now planning a program to honor the 100th Anniversary of The University of Montana’s pharmacy program and we will be sending all UM alumni information on our plans early in July. We expect this program to be conducted on October 18-20 and we plan to kick off the inaugural Frank Pettinato Lectureship during this time. Additionally, we are planning a banquet and continuing education programs around this football weekend–the Grizzlies will be hosting the University of Northern Colorado, a new member of the Big Sky Conference.
Finally, I am pleased to announce that our pharmacy students selected Professors Michael Rivey and David Freeman as the Teachers of the Year for the departments respectively of Pharmacy Practice and Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Both Mike and David have done an outstanding job with our students year after year, and they both will be recognized at the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.
Please stop by the College to visit with us and take a look at our Skaggs Building Addition.
