Antimicrobial resistance is a growing public health concern.  The Montana Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness (MARA) program is committed to increasing awareness about the appropriate use of antimicrobials in order to prevent the development of multi-drug resistant organisms.  “Improving Appropriate Antibiotic Prescribing for Acute Respiratory Infections” is an interactive, 1-hour continuing education course designed to improve appropriate antibiotic use in the community setting.  This free, on-line program, offered through Get Smart Colorado, is for primary care clinicians, nurses, and pharmacists and provides CME, CNE, AAFP, and ACPE continuing education credits.

Learning objectives for the program are:

  • Describe four consequences of the overuse of antibiotics for acute respiratory infections
  • Apply the principles of appropriate antibiotic use for treatment of acute bronchitis, acute sinusitis, pharyngitis and acute otitis media
  • Develop practical strategies to adopt appropriate antibiotic use within your practice.
